For survivors, consent must be ongoing, revisable, and responsive. A “yes” offered in one moment does not obligate the body in the next. Capacity can change. Tolerance can fluctuate. What felt manageable yesterday may feel overwhelming today.

It is imperative that survivors of military sexual assault receive not only our sympathy but also concrete actions from those in power. For far too long, politicians and government officials have turned a blind eye to the needs and experiences of these brave individuals. Their frustrations resonate deeply, and the need for action is urgent.

As I sat by the river's edge, I felt a presence, a silent pledge, A blue heron gliding through the air, A graceful dance, beyond compare.  Its elegant form, a sight to behold, A symbol of peace, ancient and old, I felt a connection, deep and true, As if it knew just what to do. 

Survivors of abuse have stories to tell, Of pain and suffering that they've held, In their hearts for far too long, It's time to listen to their song.  The scars they carry are not just skin deep, They run through their souls, causing them to weep, For the innocence lost, the trust betrayed, It's time to offer them our aid.
